Abstract

Basketball is one of the sports played by both genders and has witnessed remarkable progress in all
physical, skill, psychological and mental aspects. Through observing the two researchers’ experience
in the field of teaching basketball and reviewing previous studies and research, it was noted that there
is a clear difficulty in learning basic skills. Among female students, this may be due to the lack of use
of cognitive exercises, which may contribute to the process of learning basic skills. Therefore, the two
researchers decided to study this problem by applying cognitive exercises, which may help improve
and accelerate the learning of basic basketball skills for female students. The research aims to:
1- Identifying the effect of cognitive exercises on learning some basic basketball.
1- The curriculum prepared by the teacher contributed to the students’ acquisition of basic basketball
skills.
2- The various cognitive exercises were effective and had a clear impact on the students’ acquisition of
basic basketball skills.
3- Repeating the exercises and gradating them from easy to difficult and from simple to complex,
according to scientific foundations, has a positive impact on the acquisition of basic basketball skills
for female students at this age stage.
4- Using cognitive exercises on different targets and aiming exercises on the angles of real targets in a
gradual manner led to the acquisition of aiming and handling.
