The research aims to identify the level of communication technology in sports media institutions from the perspective of academics in the faculties of physical education and sports sciences at the universities in Baghdad governorate (Baghdad – Waziriya – Mustansiriya – Al-Basic). The researcher employed a descriptive method, utilizing survey, correlational, and normative studies. The research community consisted of 357 academic members, and a scale of Iraqi television sports programs was developed and validated with 34 items distributed across four dimensions: the content of sports TV programs, the habits and patterns of sports viewers, the motivations and gratifications experienced by followers, and the knowledge that contributes to the formation of a sports culture. The statistical software SPSS was used for the purpose of processing the data statistically. The researcher referenced several studies related to the research topic. The researcher reached a set of conclusions, including:
- The sports programs in Iraq are acceptable in their current content but require more effort and development.
- The Iraqi sports programs are distinguished by their attention to various sports fields and are not limited to the coverage of sports events and matches; rather, they also focus on sports culture and knowledge, thus contributing to the formation of a sports culture for the audience.
- Iraqi television sports programs are characterized by content that lacks comprehensiveness in presenting various sports activities and are limited to group activities.
The recommendations are represented by several points, including:
- Striving to improve the quality of interactive sports programs in both form and content to ensure an increase in their fan base.
- The need to pay attention to the issue of lifting the ban on Iraqi stadiums.
- The necessity of including a wider range of sports games and events in the content and presentation of sports programs, rather than being limited to a specific specialty.
